Name and Job Title:
Rachel Webb - GPN

Describe your current job role
I work as a Practice Nurse at Briercliffe Surgery. My day to day role includes seeing patients with chronic disease such as Asthma, COPD, Hypertension, CVD and sexual health clinics. We also hold baby clinics once a week - which I love!

How did you start your career in health?
At 19 years old I became a domiciliary carer. I used to care for a gentleman who had MND and formed a lovely bond. His wife stated I would make a good Nurse. From there I did my Nursing and Midwifery Access course at Burnley College. From there I studied Adult Nursing at the University of Salford.
How did you reach your current position?
I have worked in ELHT on the wards, Cardiac Cath lab and District Nursing. I was asked if I would like an opportunity to become a Practice Nurse. I was apprehensive about applying due to having no practice Nurse experience, but I still went for it. Luckily I got the position. I would highly recommend Nurses from secondary care to apply for these roles as we need Practice Nurses, and you receive all the training you need!

Who or what has been your inspiration?
My gentleman with MND was my main inspiration to become a Nurse ❤️

What advice would you give others on reaching their potential or embarking on a career in health?
Take the opportunity!  It might be a hard work at first but it is worth it in the end.

What does 2020 #YearoftheNurseandMidwife mean to you?
Nurses should be recognised for their hard work, skills, care and compassion that they provide. We are amazing.

Favourite quotes of all time
Work hard, play even harder 😉
