Medicine - Work Placement Programme

We are pleased to confirm that the Medicine Work Placement Programme is now OPEN for new applications for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Medicine - Work Placement Programme
We offer work experience for students in Year 12 or above who wish to pursue a career as a doctor.
​The aim of the placement is to;


  -   Learn key practical and communication skills that are essential for a career within Medicine
  -   
Gain valuable insights into the application and selection process as well as practice interview techniques for gaining a          place at medical school
  -   
Meet and talk with junior and senior doctors
  -   
Meet and talk with patients, gaining a valuable insight into the patient’s perspective
  -   
Gain exposure to the workings of a busy Hospital
  -   
Find out about the wide range of careers available within Medicine


 
The placement will provide valuable information for personal statements and interviews.
To be eligible for this placement, you must
1.     Be a student in the Lower Sixth Form of a school or college within East Lancashire (BB Postcode area)
Or
2.     Live within East Lancashire (your permanent/main residence is within the BB postcode area) 
Or
3.     Be the son or daughter of an employee at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust
 


​Minimum entry criteria
GCSEs
You must have a minimum of 8 at grades A* - C (or numerical grades 9 to 4)

English Language must be an A*, A or B (or numerical grade 9, 8, 7 or 6)

Chemistry AND Biology (or dual/double science) must be A* or A (or numerical grade 9, 8 or 7)

Maths must be A*, A or B (or numerical grade 9, 8, 7 or 6)
​A-Levels
You must be studying at least 3 A levels and subjects must include:
1) Chemistry
2) Biology, Physics or Maths
3) Any academic subject

PLEASE NOTE!

We will only discuss the programme or any application with the applicant directly.
We will NOT discuss any details with applicant’s parents or schools/college. This is to ensure the students take responsibility for their own development and "career" progression.

We receive a number of applications with missing information. Please ensure your application is completed in FULL and that you have provided copies of all the required documentation. Due to the volume of applications we receive, it is not possible for us to chase you for any missing information therefore if you submit an application with missing information it will be IMMEDIATELY REJECTED.

We cannot accept applications from students at schools or colleges outside this area unless the student lives within East Lancashire, or from students from below Year 12. Applicants must have the support of their school or college.
