SAS Doctors and Senior Clinical Fellows - Study leave

For each year of your contract you are entitled to a study leave allowance.
  • Any weekend/courses attended in your own time still require a study leave form completing due to the liability for expenses
  • Completed study leave forms should be sent electronically 8 weeks in advance of the course you are attending to:

For Senior Clinical Fellows: studyleave@elht.nhs.uk

For SAS Doctors: consultantsstudyleave@elht.nhs.uk

  • You are expected to pay for the course and any associated expenses. This can then be claimed for after your attendance on the course
  • Study leave funding cannot be used for examinations, however the time for the exam should be applied for using the study leave form

Step-by-step guidance and a study leave form can be accessed using the links below:

SAS Doctors Development Fund
Health Education England North West (HEE-NW) funding allows generic courses to be tailored to the needs of the group to support personal and professional development.
You are also encouraged to make maximum use of the HEE-NW bursary scheme which is around £1,000 and doctors have used the fund for developmental and educational courses. The bursary has been used before in many courses such as "Advanced Skills in Vascular Surgery", "Medical Leadership in Practice", “Online Master’s degree e.g. ChM in Urology or Masters in Sports Medicine” and the “Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education”. It can be still used for clinical courses if required, but SAS doctors and Senior Clinical Fellows are encouraged to use their own Trust study leave budget for such courses at the first instance.
Further information about this can be accessed through HEE-NW SAS Doctors webpage

Local SAS Doctors and Senior Clinical Fellow Courses
The Postgraduate Education Department arrange local courses according to both the needs of the Trust and the needs of our individual SAS Doctors and Senior Clinical Fellows that will assist in your career such as:
~ Accredited Educational & Clinical Supervisors Workshop
~ Advanced Teach the Teacher
~ CESR

Other non-clinical courses that you feel will assist you in developing your career, please contact Khaled who will be happy to discuss this further with you
