Cathie Melvin, Clinical Research Development Lead, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT), and Senior Nursing & Midwifery Research Leader, National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) 70@70 Programme. Cathie has been a Registered Midwife at the Trust since 1995, and has a Master’s Degree in Health Research from Lancaster University (2002). She is an experienced Research Midwife and was, until March 2019, ELHT Women & Children’s Health Research Team Leader (2010-2019), delivering NIHR Portfolio clinical trials. She is an NIHR Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) award collaborator – Self-hypnosis for intrapartum pain (SHIP) trial (2009), and Antenatal care after a previous pregnancy or neonatal loss study (2017).
In 2019, Cathie was awarded a place on the 70@70: NIHR Senior Nurse and Midwife Research Leader Programme (until 2022). Her role now is to support the development and implementation of high quality research and, in particular, to support the essential contribution of nursing and midwifery to NHS research, together with university and other NHS/NIHR colleagues.
