Family Care

Lancashire Women and Newborn Centre (LWNC) at Burnley General Teaching Hospital (BGTH) and the Blackburn and Rossendale Birth Centres means 7,000+ babies are born each year in modern, purpose-built facilities.

Support for parents and families’ continues after birth. The LWNC is home to a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and both East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen are proud to receive UNICEF ‘Baby Friendly’ accreditation every 12 months for the past 20 years.

But Family Care is far more than babies. In June 2017, the Stepping Stones Child Development Centre moved to a new, improved location in Rossendale, complementing its two sister facilities at Holly House (Accrington) and Rainbows (BGTH).

Burnley is also the base for our East Lancashire Child and Adolescent Service (ELCAS), our specialist mental health service for children and young people.

The Family Care division leads the Trust’s safeguarding function, an area of intense resource requirement and development across the Trust. The division prides itself in being flexible, adaptable and having a ‘can do’ culture.
As a division we have the commitment, passion and drive to continually improve our services, implementing national and local guidance and utilising new technologies as they become available. The team are equipped to respond rapidly to changes in local and national guidance.
