Mark has been working within DERI since August 2021 as Research & Innovation Operations Manager. He has previously worked as a Research Ethics Committee Manager within the Health Research Authority, Senior Research Co-ordinator within the Sponsorship Team at Oxford University Hospitals NHSFT, and until recently as an R&I Initiation & Delivery Manager within Greater Manchester Mental Health NHSFT; overseeing Research Support, Research Performance, R&I Communications and Industry Liaison. At the 2018 Greater Manchester Clinical Research Awards, he won his category, Best Debut, which recognised his work to help embed a culture of research and innovation within the Trust.
Utilising this experience, he provides guidance to potential investigators on the necessary requirements & regulatory obligations for their projects. He is responsible for overseeing the Trust’s Sponsorship of research projects to make sure that they adhere strategically to the trust’s values - meeting the needs of our patients and communities. He additionally manages the core Research Support Team, taking a lead in assessing the feasibility of hosted projects, and ensuring appropriate financial and costing arrangements are in place prior to confirmation of the Trust's Capacity & Capability. A core thread in his role is making sure the right quality systems and processes are in place so that all research is conducted to internationally recognised standards of quality and safety.
