Foundation - Study Leave
Study Leave
In FY2 trainees have access to study leave, which can be used to:
FY2 doctors have 30 days paid educational time, 20 days of which are allocated to the generic teaching programme.
Doctors may take up to an additional 10 days as study leave, as long as this is approved in advance by the Foundation Programme Director.
Funding is available for some aspects of study leave; the budget for each FY2 Doctor is £805.
Study leave is meant to be used to:
FY1 Doctors are allowed to access their study leave budget during placement 3 of FY1 for the following:
Days taken in FY1 will be recouped from the FY2 allowance.
FY1 Doctors are also allowed 5 days of Educational Leave. This leave is discretionary and not an entitlement.
All requests will be considered on an individual basis and will take into account progression and engagement with Foundation Training.

- Achieve the Foundation outcomes
- Explore career opportunities and improve wider professional development
