University of Central Lancashire (UCLan)
UCLan is the largest provider of health and social care education in Lancashire and Cumbria and is one of only five universities in the country delivering medicine, dentistry and pharmacy, complemented by a wide-range of other health related subjects such as nursing, midwifery and paramedic practice.
The Trust has been taking UCLan learners of all specialities for many years. However, our relationship strengthened in September 2015 when the university opened its doors to the first cohort of MBBS students. ELHT is the main teaching hospital for UCLan medical students and the first cohort arrived in September 2017 to begin their clinical years. Now approaching five years operational, with students soon to be across all years and UCLan now recognised as a UK Medical school, the course goes from strength to strength. Such is the reputation of the MBBS programme student numbers are increasing year on year beyond the predicted estimates.
As part of the programme students attend ELHT for a variety of placements over the 5 year programme.
Placements are based across all ELHT sites and the students are always greeted with a warm East Lancashire welcome!
